I've seen a few bloggers talk about their old makeup and I really enjoy those types of posts so I thought I might do a couple of my own, I hope you don't mind looking at manky old make up though!
What I love about posts that talk about vintage makeup is getting to look at how the packaging has changed, and what colours were being made. I also think it's a kind of snapshot of who a person was, I'm going to show you my oldest nail polish that I got when I was around 18 or so in the late 90's and you can tell I liked my bright colours! I hung around with Goths, but I was a cross between an Indie kid and Pop kid, which was a weird mix, so I always stuck out like a sore thumb, but I loved my bright colours, they reflected who I was and how I saw the world.
Anyway, I bet you want to see the old polish right? Let's get to it....
90's Rimmel - Banana Scented, Strawberry Scented, Mania & Zeitgeist |
So here's two polishes that I've never seen on anyone's blog, and two that are very popular indeed. I remember getting these from Boots, they were the first nail polishes I can remember buying for myself. I've always loved oil slicks, I'm fascinated by the rainbow of colours, so to find that in a polish, well, let's just say I fell instantly in love with Mania and Zeitgeist. I used half of the bottles, then just saved them because they went gloopy and were too thick to use. The two scented ones were such an interesting idea so I had to try them. I wish I could remember what other colours and smells were in the range, if you know, get in touch, plus I'd love to know if anyone else still has them.
90's Spectacular - Green Goddess, Buttercup, Oyster Shell, Rainbow Sparkle & Purple Passion |
Okay, all these photographed perfectly apart from Purple Passion which is purple not blue, my camera obviously doesn't like purple, grrr. The purple one is a beautiful one too, a lovely rich Cadbury's purple with a lighter purple shimmer. I remember getting these from Birmingham's Bullring market, some I was happier with than others, the yellow and purple were opaque, but the white and green were really sheer. The Green Goddess however is an amazing green, it's seems like it's basically green shimmer in a clear base, and it's beautiful in the bottle. It's half empty now and thick so I'm going to have to treat myself to some restorer stuff so I can save it and do some swatches with it, I have a feeling it'll look cool over black.
I've got some more of my old polish to show you but I think I'll save them for another day. It has got me wondering how many old make up brands from my teenage years are still going, obviously Rimmel are still going strong, but what happened to Spectacular, maybe they're still going, but maybe under a different name. I think I might have to look into it.
So that concludes today's post, I hope you enjoyed seeing some of the polish of my past, it's certainly brought back a lot of fond memories for me. I'd love to know what your oldest polishes are (or were if you threw them away), and what you loved or hated about them.
Till next time, cheerio for now,
Oh wow! I love Mania and Zeitgeist but holy moly those Spectaculars!!! LOOVE!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to get some more old Spectaculars, just to know what other colours they came out with, Rainbow Sparkle is the first glitter polish I ever bought, it was a bit pants though, I was hoping for full coverage and instead I got a few dots on my nails.
ReplyDeleteMania and Zeitgeist are among my faves!
